“Bhakti is heart’s longing for God with feelings of deep love. The longing is so intense that the devotee’s mind automatically gravitates and sticks to the lotus feet of the Lord, as an iron needle to the magnetic bar.
“Love is the very nature of every human being. A man loves his wife, children, brothers, sisters and parents. When the same feelings of love are directed towards God, it is called bhakti.
“The love of worldly objects degenerates into lust and greed; but the love of God elevates one to the spheres of bliss and peace.
“A bhakta (devotee) loves God for love sake. He gives his everything to God, but does not want anything in return from God. The best example in this regard is saint Tukaram, who says in one of his compositions, “Oh God, I neither want wealth nor learning. I do not even want to go to heaven. Let me be born again and again. But Oh Lord! Grant me this – that I may always have love for Thee, and that also only for love sake.

「バクティとは、深い愛の感情をもって神に憧れる心のことである。その憧れは非常に強く、帰依者の心は、鉄の針が磁石の棒に吸い付くように、自動的に主の蓮華の足に引き寄せられ、くっつくのです。
「愛とは、すべての人間の本質です。人は自分の妻、子供、兄弟、姉妹、両親を愛します。同じ愛の感情が神に向けられるとき、それはバクティと呼ばれます。
「この世のものを愛すると欲望に堕落するが、神を愛すると至福と平安の世界に昇華する。
「バクタ（帰依者）は、愛のために神を愛します。彼は自分のすべてを神に捧げるが、神からの見返りは求めない。その最たる例が、聖人トゥカラムです。彼は自作の中で、「神よ、私は富も学問も欲しません。天国へ行きたいとも思いません。何度でも生まれ変わらせてください。しかし、主よ。しかし、主よ、私にこれをお与えください--私が常にあなたへの愛を持ち、それも愛のためにのみ持つことができるように。
