According to Hindu tradition, one's lifespan is measured in the number of full moons one witnesses instead of in calendar years. ‘Sahasra Chandra Darshana,’ is the celebration of 1000th full moon during a person's life as a special occasion which equates to 29,500 days or 80 years and 10 months. In practice, this ceremony is traditionally celebrated three full moons prior to the person’s 81st birthday. This ‘Sahasra Chandra Darshana,’ is one of few age-based rituals prescribed by the Sages and is believed to revitalize the body, bestow mental and physical strength as well as a full healthy life, and enrich the pursuit of spiritual liberation. This February will mark the celebrations of His Holiness Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji's Sahasra Chandra Darshana in Mysuru, India.

ヒンドゥ教では、人の寿命は暦年ではなく、満月の回数で測るとされています。「サハスラ・チャンドラ・ダルシャナ」とは、一生のうち1,000回目の満月を特別に祝うことで、29,500日、80年10カ月に相当する。実際には、81歳の誕生日の3ヶ月前に祝うのが慣例となっている。この「サハスラ・チャンドラ・ダルシャナ」は、聖仙によって定められた数少ない年齢別の儀式の一つで、身体を活性化し、精神的・肉体的な強さと健康寿命を授け、精神的解放の探求を豊かにすると信じられている。今年の2月には、シュリ・ガナパティ・サーチダナンダ・スワミジのサハスラ・チャンドラ・ダルシャナがインドのマイソールで開催されます。
